In the Final Fantasy XI, you can modify your chosen character to your heart's desire. You can even have hobbies and become a craftsman. Since, the game tries to depict real life scenarios, you have to earn to survive through the game and to purchase equipment for protection against the enemy. In Final Fantasy XI, Gil is the currency used to do trading.

To earn Gil, one of the ways is doing the Warp Quest. The Warp Quest can be done only if you have enough fame. Fame needs to be build by doing some odd jobs first. For Warp Quest, you have to get the scroll from the NPC named as "Unlucky Rat" in exchange for slime oil which can be bought for 1k Gil.

Now a good question would be how to earn Gil. There are several methods listed by which you can earn Gil. There is the Warp Quest with which you can get 10k Gil within an hour. For that you first need 1k to buy slime oil and exchange it with the NPC, called "Unlucky Rat" with the Warp scroll which is worth 10k. There is also a twist in Warp Quest, you need to have fame built up to do so.

Players can have crafts and hobbies to earn Gil. Farming is a craft, which can be started from Level One and is profitable for a long time. However, use only those things for farming which give profit to the maximum.

Fishing is also a long term profit means. You have to buy fishing equipment, which is usually gotten under 1k Gil. Auctioning fish is very much profitable for a long time just like farming.
