St. Petersburg Bowl Tickets - Touchdowns on Tampa Bay

By David Griffith

In only it's second season, the St. Petersburg Bowl has already established itself as an exciting bowl in a great venue. This year's bowl will take place on December 19,2009, just hours after the first bowl of the season, and will likely pit teams from Conference USA against the Big East. There are contingencies in place, however, so if for some reason one of those two conferences does not attend, a team from the sun Belt Conference will be invited. The St. Petersburg Bowl is played at Tropicana Field, which is home to the Tampa Bay Rays and Major League Baseball.

ESPN televises the St. Petersburg bowl and will show the game after the New Mexico Bowl. Although the bowl game is still in it's first few years of existence, it is a hit with fans in the Tampa and St. Pete areas as well as college football fans. What could be better than a college football game on the Gulf Coast in December?

Although Tropicana Field has to make adjustments to host a college football game, since it's normal use is for professional baseball, the result is still a fantastic venue in a city that is a lot of fun to visits. If the proposed Rays stadium is approved, the game will follow to the new stadium, proof that the game has found a home on the Bay.

ESPN owns several bowl games, including the St. Petersburg Bowl, which means they organize and promote the bowl game. Along with this bowl, ESPN owns the aforementioned New Mexico Bowl, the Armed Forces Bowl, The Maaco Las Vegas Bowl, the Hawaii Bowl and the PapaJohns.com Bowl. ESPN has taken on these bowl games and done well, which leads one to think they may continue to take on bowl games in the future.

The first St. Petersburg Bowl had loads of offense from the South Florida Bulls, with quarterback Matt Grothe tossing for 236 yards and three touchdown strikes. The Bulls routed the Memphis Tigers, 41-14, giving the hometown crowd something to cheer about from the relatively new South Florida team.

If you are excited about attending the St. Petersburg Bowl and are looking for tickets, be sure to scope out all of the best prices at one time using an online tool like TicketZinger.com, and also check out online selling sites like eBay. You can sometimes find good deals on places such as Craigslist, but be very careful. If a deals sounds too good to be true, or has a 'story' that sounds too good, it probably is.
