By Rand Fortescue

As you know every year there are many who celebrate the festival known as Mardi Gras. Many do not understand the concept of the celebration except that you dress up with many beaded necklaces and drink! Many call Mardi Gras "Fat Tuesday." If you are going to host a Mardi Gras party you may want to search around for some affordable Mardi Gras party supplies so you do not have to break the wallet.

Mardi Gras party supplies are always out in the party stores when it comes time to celebrate this traditional yearly. You may even notice that they have a few items still out all year long such as the necklaces and masks which you will see on Mardi Gras. There are many sites online which will offer you discounts and cheaper prices than what you will find in your local store.

Mardi Gras is traditionally a colorful festival with parades, glittery costumes, music and lots of food and drink. The main colors you will see are purple, green, and gold. The Mardi Gras party goer is usually decked out in beads and gorgeous masks. Other Mardi Gras party supplies can include outrageous hats, blinking cups, or literally anything that sparkles brightly and in the right colors.

One nice tradition that has been handed done for generations is the baking of the King cake. This delicious and gooey confection will contain a tiny baby made plastic somewhere inside the cake. The recipient of the King cake baby will usually have to throw the next party in the season. Some localities like to crown the baby cake holder as the King or Queen of the festival.

What would a Mardi Gras celebration be without a float? While this may not be practical for a party hosted in private home, you can make a respectable imitation of one as a centerpiece for your buffet table. Find Mardi Gras party supplies such as streamers, tinsel and beads to deck out your table sized float. You can also find harlequin dolls to populate your float for a nice touch.

Any Mardi Gras celebrant knows you can't have enough Mardi Gras beaded necklaces. These are essential Mardi Gras party supplies and come in various sizes and shapes, but the colors should always be purple, green and gold. Some people like to throw in red, but this is purely your choice. Shiny beads are nice, but the classic ones are the transparent ones that people love to throw to each other.

Perhaps one of the most recognizable things associated with Mardi Gras carnivals are the masks. These are elaborate, highly decorated masks that can either be full face or just to hide around the eyes. Using a few Mardi Gras party supplies such as colorful feathers, beads, sequins and glue, you can create your own or even have blank masks on hand for your guests to exercise their imagination and creativity.
