Beat Maker Software - The Features to Look For

By Mick LLaleBeoufey

Beat Makers come in all shapes and sizes and are available either as downloads or online .

Most beat makers use a 16 track sequencer for programming beats and sounds. That means that for any given beat in any given measure you can have 16 sounds layered in. That is's often plenty, but some software permits you to bounce those 16 sounds to one track, then you are able to add sixteen more, and on. Just remember though, more sounds don't definitely mean a better finished product.

Each track will have a volume control slider to adjust the volume level of that particular track. It's all about listening and adjusting until you get the right 'mix' that you would like.

There will also be a tempo button to set the velocity. This is for the entire song, not each track. The number you will see means beats per minute. So sixty would suggest 60 BPM, or one 2nd each.

Most beat makers will let you add sounds with pads or a piano keyboard. If you play piano you can use the keyboard. But if you're not familiar with a piano keyboard, you can use the pads to punch in sounds. Either one will give you the same result.

The quality of the drums and other sounds is very important. Make sure the beat making software you are using has top quality sounds.

Once you have the perfect rap or hip hop beat, many beat makers will allow you to simply hit a button and convert it to mp3 for instant download. This is a great feature, so check for it when you are researching beat making programs.

To sum it up, the main features of a good beat maker are : 16 track sequencer ; individual track controls ; dual sound inputs - pad and keyboard ; speed control ; mp3 capability and high quality sounds.
