What To Look For In The Best Hybrid Bike To Suit You

By Mary Stackhouse

Are you thinking about purchasing a hybrid bike? If so, its makes sense to consider and learn about the various features and the build. If you are a first time buyer, this is more important.

The hybrid bike is a mix of road bike and mountain bike. They tend to be nicely sturdy and strong enough to be ridden both on road and off. To get a further understanding of the bike though, we should look more in detail at some of the main elements, which are the wheels, gears, the frame and handlebars.

Frames

Frames

The main frame will have been made from either a lightweight steel or aluminum, which will provide strength and durability.

The gears tend to be a good mix of both road and mountain bike. So you tend to be offered a nice range, usually with 3 chain rings, depending on the price. This allows good flexibility for climbing hills and for faster speeds on flat and downhill.

Handlebars

Handlebars

The handlebars represent more the mountain bike, being shoulder width, which allows for the rider to sit in an upright position for comfort and visibility. As such you have real control of the bike movement.

Wheels

The wheels are a mix of both mountain bike and of road bike. The tires more similar to mountain bike, which are more bulky and allows more stability and durability than the road bike. But the tire pressure is more similar to the road bicycle to allow for higher speed riding capability.

The rims of the wheels and the spokes are light weight thus its not sensible to do heavy duty off road riding for fear of damaging the wheels.

Over all, the hybrid bicycle is a super choice for local commuting and also for longer distance riding too. You could for example happily use it for going to work each day or for family days out or perhaps outdoor exercise.

Its wise to research the brand that you have developed an interest in before making your purchase. There are minor details in every brand that can be a little different from another.

If you are at all unsure about anything, speak to the bicycle manufacturer as its best to find out now rather than finding out something that is not suitable for you after you made your purchase. Enjoy!
