Only Use the Finest Replicas of Medieval Weapons at LARP Events

By Rick Jones

Whether participating in your favorite LARP (Live Action Role Playing) event or just wishing to display your love of medieval weapons in your home or office, it is very important to pursue quality rather than quantity. Some of the finest replicas available are nearly indistinguishable from their originals. The most popular categories of medieval replicas are swords, flails, maces, and armor.

Many of the replica swords which are available on the web are of the highest quality workmanship. Most often, though, the buyer will find that the manufacturer does not recommend the actual use of the swords. This suggestion should be taken very seriously since the swords can prove to be quite lethal.

There were different swords for different situations. They came in a wide variety of weights, shapes, and sizes to accommodate any user. Some of the more popular types of medieval swords are the longsword, broadsword, and the claymore.

The longsword was a good choice for the average fighter because it was easy to wield and could cause significant damage. A slightly more common medieval weapon was the broadsword. This was often used by knights because, as a thrust and cut weapon, it was very versatile. There are two different swords that can be called claymores, one was the basket-hilted rapier-like weapon, the other a two handed giant sword often used in Scotland in the 15th century.

Of course, you can't talk about medieval weapons without mentioning the unique flails of the period. These scary weapons included a heavy chain with a spiky ball on the end. It could be used to bring a rider off his horse and then dish out some pretty serious damage.

There were some blunt versions of the flail (and the mace) and they were used in jousts and other displays, while the lethal versions were saved for the actual battlefield. You can get either of these medieval weapons for your personal collection.

Don't forget the armor that adorned these fighters. No medieval knight or soldier was completely ready for battle until he was fully armored. You can find authentic sets of armor that includes all the helmets, gauntlets and shields you need to beautifully compliment your LARP or personal collection.

Italian blue armor is one of the most popular suits. This is the classic design most common in the world's finest collections and museums. Many of the highly sought-after shields include the Charlemagne, Richard Lionhearted, Black Prince, and Frederick Barbarossa. Most replicas are made of the finest steel and are ready to be worn or displayed, just be sure you find the highest quality replicas and they will last a lifetime.
