Leatherman Crunch: Multi-Tool Review

Leatherman is the name the associates itself with multi-tools. Leatherman have innovated tools that are high quality. The Crunch is no exception. The Leatherman Crunch deviates from standard Leatherman designs in which the main tool is not a needle nose pliers. The Crunch is equipped with locking pliers instead. Locking pliers are also known as vice-grips. Leatherman knows the value of vice-grips and offers their version to us with the Crunch. Vice-grips are great. The free up your hand for other tasks.

The Leatherman Crunch is small. Smaller than the Wave. The design is very cool. The Crunch pops out and it takes a few seconds to set up the main tool. The result is a small to mid-size vice grip that is very compact and portable when closed. In hand, it feels very well built and like all Leathermans, it has a 25 years warranty. The company stands by it's products and you can see it in the build quality of the Crunch.

The Crunch is equipped with 13 tools but I will only mention a few. The main tools you will be using are the vice-grips, the serrated blade, the flat-head screwdriver, and the file. The rest of the tools are slightly redundant. The Crunch does not have nearly the amount of tools as a Charge but I would consider the Crunch as a complimentary multi-tool. It is best coupled with another small multi-tool. Some people do not need certain tools so it's best to get the tools you only need. For instance, some people do not drink wine often and they do not see the need for a corkscrew.

The downside to the Crunch is the lack of complimentary tools. Through the function of it's design, all of the other tools are smaller and limited. Also, what I did not like was the fact that it had 3 size flat head screwdrivers. The big flat head will be the most used. One thing that impressed me was the lock. All of the secondary tools lock firm and solid. You could use the screwdrivers to pry if you are in a grind. The adjusted knob for the vice grip can be removed allowing access to a hex drive. This makes it possible to expand the Crunch into a more versatile tool if coupled with a bit driver. You have to buy it separate. Do I see myself expanding this tool? No. Is it nice to have the option? Yes.

The Crunch is a great complimentary multi-tool. Having something is better than nothing and the Crunch can meet many needs from day to day. The crunch is perfect when coupled with the Victorinox Soldier. While not as complete as a Wave or a Charge, the Crunch can still hold it's own in the sea of multi-tools. The Joy of the Texas Rangers

I grew up in the heart of Texas, and how enjoyable it was. I loved Abilene and had a great childhood there as far as the settings go. In the household though, things were very different.

As a youngster, for the first few years of my life, I had a great life. My mother and father raised me in a wonderful Christian household. I was brought to church with them every week, never missing a day. My parents were both raised in the church so naturally they were going to do the same with me. Even at the age of three I remember playing in the nursery with other children. I remember going to Vacation Bible School and learning about stories in the Bible (mainly David and Goliath) even as a young child.

Everything changed when I was about 5 years old. When my mother switched jobs, it forced her out of the house every Sunday. Then my father decided to keep busy around the home while she was gone. We all stopped going to church, and there was an obvious rift between both of my parents. This led to a divorce three years layer.

When I'd ask my mother about them, she'd always promise me that everything was fine between the two of them. She'd even go so far as bringing my father to the house so that it'd appear they were still together (even though they'd always either argue or not speak to each other when he was here).

As they say, every cloud has a silver lining and there was one in my case. I would constantly lock myself in my room and listen to the radio when I was younger, and one day I happened upon a baseball game on the radio. I listened intently as I learned more about the game.

Every day, I'd listen to the Rangers on the radio during baseball season. I came to understand what a strikeout was, what a home run was, and what everything else meant. I'd even hear my father discussing the team with his friends, and Nolan Ryan became my favorite player on the team (he was my father's favorite too).

It became a ritual. My dad would come over, I didn't want to hear my parents arguing, so I'd stay in my room with the radio loud, listening to the Rangers. My mom eventually bought me a hat, and I'd wear it all over the place. The joy I'd feel when the team won a game!

As a kid, baseball was more to me than a game. It was more to me than numbers. It was more than WAR and ERA+ (some of you may get a kick out of that). It wasn't even just something I liked. It was something that took my mind away from everything else. It took my mind away from my parents fighting. It gave me something to look forward, not hearing my parents fight, but listening to my Rangers play.

If you're just starting an exercising plan, dips are the easiest and best to try. They will manipulate your chest and shoulders, but mostly they will work your triceps. In order to place the stress on your triceps there are a few tips you need to know. Firstly, do dips between two rods alongside each other. When you begin, your body should be in a position as if you were standing and holding two bars in your hands.

You need to hold the bars tightly so you won't slip. To start, you have to squat with your arms against your sides and your torso as erect as you can hold it. Leaning forward can concentrate stress on your shoulder and chest muscles, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you should save it for when you're exercising your chest muscles.

It is better not to lock out at the top. You will alleviate stress on your triceps if you straighten your arms. Use an assisted dip machine to counter-balance your weight if you have trouble doing dips. If your gym doesn't have one, get a spotter to push up on your feet to help you out. When you first begin, try getting in three sets of ten repetitions by yourself.

It's a good idea to have 2 one liter bottles of water. Also, carry some water purification means with you. I use a liquid water treatment drops.

Take a bit more food than you think you will need, to get you through an extra day if need be. This can easily be accomplished by having a few whole food bars with you, each of which constitute a complete meal replacement. Important for maintaining energy output.

Bring a couple more layers of clothing. These will serve to keep you warm and dry should the temperature drop unexpectedly, you somehow become wet or both. Choose layers that are synthetic. Most of them will still retain some insulative quality even if they are wet and they tend to dry a lot faster.

Pack some sort of light source like a headlamp or flashlight. If you are forced to make camp or hike out in the dark, you will be able to see trail debris an obstacles that could cause danger.

Having an accident or injury in the backcountry is no fun. Bring a small first aid kit with you. You can create one out of household supplies but don't forget hiking needs like moleskin or blister treatment. I recommend taking a basic wilderness medicine course.

On rare occasion one must light a fire in the backcountry as a matter of survival. I've been on a kayak trip where someone overturned and they were soaked just as the temperature started to drop. Do not light a fire unless absolutely necessary. Bring matches and a lighter in a waterproof case and use caution to avoid wildfires.

A small camping knife may come in handy for a number of purposes. Make sure that the one you use has a locking blade, you don't want it to close on a finger.

Don't forget the sunblock. Bring some sunglasses as well and you may want a cap with a visor or brim for extra UV protection. Your skin and eyes will be much happier.

The Koala - Death of Sam The Bushfire Koala

In February 2009 bush fires had a devastating affect on the state of Victoria. The fires burnt over 400,000 hectares with 210 people losing their lives and thousands losing their homes.

There was one ray of hope that united the nation during these difficult times - the rescue of a Koala called Sam. Millions saw the video of Sam being given water from a fire fighter. The Koala had second and third degree burns on its paws but recovered well at South Ash Wildlife Refuge.

It turns out that Sam the Koala had a disease called "Urogenital chlamydia" This disease has affected nearly 50% of the Koala population particularly in the Victoria area. It may sound familiar to you as Chlamydia is usually associated with a human sexually transmitted disease. Koalas are affected similarly with females becoming infertile. Other symptoms include urinary tract infections and even loss of sight.

Last week Sam was due to have an operation to remove cysts in her abdomen caused by the disease. It was clear however when they started to operate that the disease had spread. Sam was euthanized as it was decided that nothing more good be done for her. It would have left her in too much pain to keep her alive.

David Tree, the Firefighter who rescued the Koala was said to be in floods of tears. The Koala had become a symbol of hope and of course had shown true survival skills. There will be a commemorative plaque erected in Sam's honour in the place where he was given the water by the firefighter.

If you are planning a visit to Australia, then you should make sure you see a Koala. They are native to Australia and live high up in the trees. They are very particular though and only like to eat Eucalyptus leaves. Only when they are sick will Koalas drink water as they get 90% of their water requirements from these leaves.

Koala bears carry their young in a pouch, making them a marsupial. Did you know that the baby Koala is called a joey? It is only 2cm long when it is born and will live in its mother's pouch for at least 6 months. It will then spend time in and out of the pouch until it can survive on its own.

If you want to cuddle a Koala then you need to go to a wildlife park or Koala sanctuary. Not all will let you, but some will. The nicest way to see a Koala though is in the wild. Unfortunately they are no where near as common as the Kangaroo so seeing one can be difficult. You just need to know where to look.

Just don't think about trying to give them a cuddle in the wild. If you disturb them, they can be very vicious. You only need to take a look at their claws to work that out.

What is the Difference between Digital and Film Cameras?

The world of film making is loaded with choices and decisions. Among those, what script to produce as well as what team to put together are very important. However, another very crucial question that must be answered is whether you wish to use a film camera such as a High 8 or a digital camera that uses a hard drive or an SD memory card.

Either one is perfectly fine to use and each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Here are just a few of the differences between each.

Film Camera

Just as the name states, a film camera is one that requires film. Options for this include the High 8 which pictures quality is very clear, similar to digital. The other choices are the 16mm and the Super 8 which are the standard reel to reel cameras that were invented before VCR's.

Film cameras offer filmmaker's a much richer looking film. However, the disadvantage to this is that you will need to have the film processed. While this process only takes a day or two, it is very difficult to find a center willing to work with a filmmaker on a budget. But, if you do you will end up with a clear, more engaging film.

Camcorders are another option and these use VCR tapes. These tapes are readily available and usually very inexpensive. However, the disadvantages to using a tape camcorder are the fact that you must rewind the tape in order to see what you have shot. If you are not satisfied with the scene, you must either tape over it or use another tape. In addition, these tapes tend to wear down over time which can lead to poor film quality.

Film and tape have an additional downfall, they most often appear dark. In order to prevent this, your goal is to provide adequate light while maintaining a natural feel.

Digital

Today's advances in technology have made digital cameras popular, moderately priced and easy to use. With digital, you are able to implement more effects and editing programs allowing you to produce a more professional looking film than you would with tape or film.

Digital cameras have a disadvantage of the picture looking too bright or clear, with no depth to the scene. If you have ever looked at a picture on an old 35mm and compared it to a digital camera you will know what I mean.

A digital camera is very clear, however it is very difficult to capture the same shading and lighting every time unless you are an expert at editing programs and lighting.

Digital is very easy to use as you can check your work immediately just by clicking play or hooking the camera up to a computer. If you find something you don't like, simply click the delete button and its gone. No need to worry about wearing out the film or tape.

An additional advantage to a digital camcorder is that it only requires a quick hook up to your computer, uploading of your files and opening your editing program. With a tape camcorder a converter is required in order to connect to your computer.

Adding special effects to a digital film is easier too; it just takes using your files already uploaded on your computer and adding whatever effects you need to.

The final flaw to using a digital camcorder is the fact that ones that use a hard drive can be fairly expensive. Oftentimes, they run anywhere from $400 and up. However, there are camcorders available that use an SD or XD memory card just like your still camera. These are usually much cheaper, but their quality is just the same as the expensive ones.

When looking for a camera, it's always best to know what you need it for. What types of films will you be making? Do you want the ease and convenience of digital? Or would you prefer the look and feel of film or tape cameras?

Once you decide this, it will make the choices much easier to make.

The other one is Brookfield Zoo located west of downtown Chicago. The zoo is beautifully landscaped and is the home of over two thousand animals. Other Chicago attractions that are well noted are the Field Museum, Adler Planetarium and Shedd Aquarium.

Tiger Woods Blows it for Himself and the PGA

Y.E. Yang shocked the world and probably himself by beating the world's best golfer, and maybe the greatest golfer of all time, Tiger Woods, by coming back from 2 strokes down Sunday to win the PGA Championship. Yang is the first Asian player to win a Major, the first player to beat Tiger Woods when Woods was tied or all alone in the lead after 54 holes of golf. Golf enthusiasts cheered, David took down Goliath, 12 never struck for Cinderella, No. 110 took down No. 1.

Is this good? I don't really think so. The PGA heavily relies on Tiger Woods and the sentiment on the street is that Woods simply isn't effective as he was, and may never be again.

Woods is by no means past his prime. After returning from an injury that ended his 2008 campaign, Woods has bounced back with wins at five tournaments. Some of these involved some vintage Woods Sunday comebacks. Unfortunately, the majors are far more watched than the other tournaments, so the typical sports fan doesn't realize that all's not lost in Tiger's corner.

Yang winning is good, at the moment. But looking back 20 or 30 years from now, wouldn't you rather tell your kids or grandchildren about how the greatest golfer of all time beat some other guy in a 12-hole playoff after holing out from the fairway on 18. Wouldn't you rather have told your grandkids about how Tom Watson, the old geezer like you, won the British Open instead of pushing an 8 foot putt way to the right and self-destructing in a 4 hole playoff?

Yang will probably make few headlines anytime soon, and the once "sure prospect" of Woods beating Jack Nicklaus' record for majors one is suddenly not such a sure thing anymore.

While there are a few more months of golf left, there are no majors, and only serious golf enthusiasts will track these events. Fringe fans will go back to watching other sports, and will be far from enthused about the 2010 golf season.

We need the Tiger, the best golfer, to be well, the best golfer. He needs to hold leads on Sunday. He needs people to be scared on the last few holes with Tiger on the prowl. We need Tiger Woods to dominate everybody and ask questions later. If he's labeled the best, he needs to start performing in the biggest and best events.

Here's to hoping that 2010 brings us a Tiger resurgence, and most notably, a major or two. The sport really needs it.

Great Places to Ride Your Bike in Canada

If you're looking for a biking adventure, Canada is the place to go! Experienced bikers will particularly love Canada's rugged terrain and demanding trails to test their skill levels and challenge them. There are, however, some trails in Canada suitable for less experienced bikers, as well. Take a look at what I found!

In Alberta, Canada, you can bike a 14-mile singletrack route from Old Fort Point to Valley of the Five Lakes. This area is a busy place to be in the summer months, so be on the lookout for lots of other bikers. This trail is also a good place for beginning bikers to try their luck, as there are numerous areas where they can enter or exit the trail, so they don't necessarily have to tackle the more technical areas. There are a few difficult climbs and challenging descents, so intermediate and experienced bikers will have fun here, too.

Not far from Quebec City, the Mont Ste-Anne Ski Area offers more than just skiing. It is also home to lots of different trails suitable for riders of many experience levels. The trails vary in length and many are quite technical. This area does have an entrance fee-$6-and it will cost a little more if you want to take advantage of the chairlifts, as well. But the scenery is breathtaking and you could even see moose or bear on your ride!

Still another area with lots of variety is the Burnaby Mountain trails in British Columbia. Some trails are technical gravel trails with rapid descents. Others are paved and a nice offering for the novice rider. Get a map ahead of time so you can select the trails suitable for your riding level.

Another ski area located near Bathrust, New Brunswick, also offers biking trails. With just about 10 miles in singletrack trails, you can select from steep inclines, fast descents, and bridges to navigate if you're an experienced biker. More trails are constantly being added, and they are very well kept. The locals highly recommend this area! A group ride is held each Tuesday evening, and you can join in if you like.

Porcupine Ridge near Bracebridge, Ontario is a fun ride for the experienced rider. There are 8 miles of trails to choose from. You won't find a lot of climbs or descents, but there are lots of rocks, roots and some incredible drop-offs to keep things interesting. It's a very technical ride, but lots of fun!

Air Supply is a hardcore ride in North Vancouver, British Columbia. It is for serious, professional bikers only. Packed into 1 mile of track you will find 10-20 foot gaps, huge ladder jumps, high skinnys, ladder drops, high wall rides, a swivel teeter-totter, and a double teeter! Masochists need only apply!

Biking in Canada is definitely a cool adventure! Be sure to bring your camera to capture the scenery and incredible wildlife. Select trails that match your level of experience, and have a safe, happy ride!

For women with straight hair, individually roll the section of your hair using fast heating hot rollers. Then fasten it with a curler. If conditioners make your hair too soft or flat, do not rinse your hair with it. However, if your hair tangles after using a conditioner, use an effective detangling spray while your hair is still wet. However, be aware that if you have chemically treated hair, your hair may not be curled using a curling iron.

Keep in mind that in styling hair to make sure that the hair is washed with shampoo. In addition, hair should be damp and not wet when curling. In addition, remember that bigger curls need bigger barrel irons. In addition, smaller curls, tighter curls need smaller sizes curling irons. In addition, finish it with a light or a medium spray to make your hair move.
